About your facilitators…
Sarah Durrant
I journeyed with shame for a long time, from young childhood through my teenage years and into adulthood. The shame I carried had a hugely debilitating effect on me, crippling my sense of self and self-worth, and undermining my ability to trust myself, other people and life. It took me decades to feel safe enough to truly open up and share about my shame.
About 15 years ago, I began exploring - and experiencing - the healing power of connection and compassion, and feel blessed and inspired by how these quintessentially human qualities have transformed my life. These days I understand at a bone level that shame is an interpersonal emotion that needs interpersonal connection to heal and resolve.
My work is increasingly informed by this experience and I love holding and participating in intentional spaces in which we can come together and be a compassionate presence and witness to each other’s stories. This process, both new and ancient, naturally invites stuck energies to flow as we offer and receive the generative qualities - connection, holding, empathy, love and belonging - which were typically absent during challenging or traumatic formative experiences.
I’m excited to begin offering compassionate spaces for Shame Tending alongside my other work and feel blessed and inspired to be offering this new workshop with my dear friend Jen Coates.
Jenny Coates
We all carry shame even when we can’t name it. It’s sometimes easier to name once we realise it’s not ours to carry and we let it go. I know that much of my life has been propelled in some way by the shame I was carrying, into relationships, friendships and work.
As I’ve moved through this journey of recognising and freeing myself from shame’s huge burden I have seen it in others and care deeply that we create the space, permission and compassionate connection to enable people to explore, express and release their own shame. So much of the shame we carry is not ours and through compassionate connection, it can be let go.
Working with Sarah on this is a joy and we aim to bring lightness, laughter and a shared sense of humanity to the spaces we are offering.
