Who does this webinar serve?
Organisations seeking to enhance the well-being, resilience and confidence of their staff through greater awareness and understanding around this pervasive and pernicious phenomenon.
Individuals experiencing the debilitating ‘symptoms’ of Imposter Syndrome.
Colleagues from non-dominant cultural backgrounds or from marginalised and/or oppressed groups may particularly benefit since research shows Imposter Syndrome is especially prevalent among people from these backgrounds.
This work can also be particularly impactful for women working in currently or historically male-dominated sectors (and vice versa). It is also true that increasing numbers of men are coming to this work and sharing their ‘imposter’ experiences. My aim is to create safe, supportive and welcoming spaces for anyone drawn to this session.
Leaders of all kinds will benefit as this work will help them understand their own ‘imposter’ experiences as well as those of colleagues they lead, manage, mentor or coach.
Learning objectives
This introductory webinar is designed to:
Raise awareness and deepen understanding of the key aspects of Imposter Syndrome: what it is, why so many of us have it, and some of the cultural and systemic reasons for its prevalence;
Enable colleagues to recognise common limiting and debilitating thoughts, feelings, beliefs, somatic experiences and behaviours of Imposter Syndrome;
Raise awareness of the particular prevalence of Imposter Syndrome amongst women and people from non-dominant cultural backgrounds or from marginalised and/or oppressed groups.
Invite participants to explore and better understand their personal experiences of Imposter Syndrome in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment;
Invite participants to consider the impact of Imposter Syndrome on the departments and organisations in which they work.
Offer participants the opportunity to share from their own ‘imposter’ experiences, and ask any questions they may have;
Name key inner leadership qualities which build imposter resilience.
Support staff development and make a meaningful contribution to conversations about staff well-being within organisations.
Learning outcomes
Participants will leave this session with:
A good understanding of what Imposter Syndrome is including the most common cognitive, psychological, emotional, physical and existential ‘symptoms’.
An appreciation of Imposter Syndrome as an embodied as well as a psychological experience;
Insight into personal, cultural and systemic reasons why Imposter Syndrome exists and is so prevalent in the workspace including awareness of why and how Imposter Syndrome particularly impacts certain social groups;
Insights into their own imposter experiences including the professional spaces and situations where they feel particularly prone to Imposter Syndrome;
Raised awareness of the distorted and unsustainable beliefs and behaviours they may be carrying which are hindering their growth, development and expression;
Greater awareness of the impact of Imposter Syndrome in their working (and wider) lives, and the lives of those they manage, mentor or lead;
Insight into the inner leadership qualities they can cultivate as leaders (and mentors) which will build imposter resilience and resourcefulness. A blend of knowledge-sharing, interactive segments, self-inquiry, small group work in break-out rooms, experiential practices plus discussion with individual and group coaching/mentoring as time permits.
